🌟 The Beginning

Asifunde Chommie was started to make learning easier, clearer, and more relatable for South African learners, especially in STEM subjects. Many learners struggle not because they are lazy or not intelligent, but because information is presented in a way that is difficult to understand. One of the biggest barriers is language.

🗣️ The Language Challenge

The platform was created to break the language barrier in education by offering Mathematics (Grades 8–12) and Science (Life Sciences and Physical Sciences, Grades 10–12) in learners' home languages. Research shows that many learners understand core concepts but struggle to decode the English used in exam questions and instructions. This prevents them from fully demonstrating their knowledge, particularly in Mathematics and Science.

💡 Our Solution

Asifunde Chommie addresses this challenge by simplifying complex concepts, using familiar language, and presenting content in a clear, practical, and engaging way. Beyond academics, the platform guides learners to make informed subject choices from Grade 10, especially encouraging Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences. These subjects open doors to STEM courses at universities and careers with lower unemployment rates, such as engineering, health sciences, technology, and applied sciences.

❤️ Our Inspiration

The project was inspired by the real experiences of South African learners with potential who miss opportunities simply because they lack guidance, information, and support at the right time. Asifunde Chommie aims to be the trusted "chommie" that explains things honestly, without judgment, and empowers learners — particularly those from under-resourced communities — to succeed in school, access STEM opportunities at university, and build sustainable futures.
